My friend wrote me and said...

"...Ok, you know those pictures of that rusted out and frozen in time school bus that I have in my photos on facebook?

My deceased grandmother's house [was in the] backwoods part of Kentucky. Recently my mom had it [the bus] cut up and hauled off the property and sent to the scrap heap... and when she cleaned it out she found a lot of crap in there that didn't seem to belong, and it's still a mystery how it got there. But anyway, she sent it all back to me since she's still down there after a year... and i went through it and found 4 track tapes.

And after fast forwarding through half the tape that was filled with a barrage of the Beatles and Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline," I hit play and heard something and thought of you. So I stopped it and recorded it to share with you.

I just thought it was hilarious that in the middle of a backwoods town in Kentucky where time kind of stands still from the 60s, in a rusted out school bus and subjected to years of abuse from the weather and the cats and animals living inside it, this tape would be there. And still play. Clear as day..."

Here it is.

I LOVE random stuff like this.

Time may stand still in the backwoods of that little town in Kentucky but, ironically, the album’s dedication along with this song choice is ever so relevant “…today.”

Thanks for sharing, Michael.

I'm endlessly fascinated with things like this. I wish I kept better track of bookmarked blogs and the like, because I've often stumbled upon blogs that showcase things like found cassette recordings and tapes and the like and all that kind of ephemera that our world is so full of.

Doesn't hurt that it's the title track to what COULD just be my favorite Barbra album. :D
